Abstract

The gauge invariance of the one- and two-photon transition rates to exciton states in semiconductors is discussed in the framework of the Wannier model. We report numerical estimations of the two-photon absorption coefficient α in CuCl in the velocity and length gauges. Our calculations show a difference in the numerical values of α of about 50% between the two gauges. However, this difference does not depend on the material parameters and might be ascribed to the Wannier approximation.
