Abstract

1. 1. A case is presented which is thought to be one of true gastroschisis in a 4 1 2 pound infant. 2. 2. The infant was treated by immediate surgery, with successful outcome. Success is attributed to: (1) the relatively small disproportion in this case between the eviscerated mass and the size of the abdomen; (2) the vigorous condition of the infant; (3) the lack of any other congenital defect; (4) immediate operation; (5) antibiotics; and (6) utilization of undermined skin flaps to cover the defect without any attempt to approximate the other layers of the abdominal wall.
