Abstract

Functional dyspepsia and gastroparesis very frequently found gastric sensorimotor encountered in gastrointestinal practice has adverse impact on quality of life of patients. As the etiopathophysiology of these two condition is not clearly understood, the diagnosis becomes quite challenging. Typical presentation of these condition consist of epigastric distress, burning or discomfort, along with complaints of early satiety, postprandial fullness, bloating, nausea and vomiting. The clinician face diagnostic dilemma which can be overcome by eliciting a through medical history and clinical examination along with the use diagnostic tools such a gastric endoscopy and a 4-hour solid phase gastric emptying scan. This review presents the dilemmas encountered by clinician in diagnosing FD or GP in a patients and diagnostic workout required to resolve the same.
