Abstract

This study addresses gender dynamics in the gastronomy of Esmeraldas, Ecuador, exploring how gender roles affect the production, distribution, and consumption of food in the region. The research is based on the need to understand and address gender inequalities embedded in localculinary practices, with the aim of promoting equity and inclusion. The relevance of this study is highlighted in the context of the Esmeraldas city, where cultural traditions have influenced the assignment of specific roles according to gender in the culinary sphere. The methodology used, which includes interviews, surveys and participant observation to collect data, presents results that reveal significant patterns in gender participation in Esmeralda gastronomy, challenging conventional expectations. Inthe conclusions, the findings are synthesized and their implication in the social fabric of Esmeraldas is discussed. The recommendations focus on practical strategies to promote gender equality in the gastronomic field, promoting diversity and empowerment
