Abstract

This research sought to understand the contributions of gastronomy as a strategy that induces social and economic change, using as a case study the Outreach Program Social Gastronomy in Jardim da Gente, linked to the Federal University of Ceara, which offers free training courses for the communities of Grande Bom Jardim and the public in general. The research presents aspects of the outreach action, as well as a literature review on gastronomy and social gastronomy and the relationship with social impacts. This qualitative and exploratory research analyzed the social and personal impacts pointed out in interviews with former students in addition to participant observation. Therefore, it was observed that gastronomy was used as an instrument of social impact, resulting in transformation, strengthening and empowerment of participants.
