Abstract

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are unusual gastrointestinal tract tumors. Most GISTs are asymptomatically present. These are best detected by CT scanning and histopathological examinations. Nowadays, immunochemistry examination is important for the GISTs overall evaluation. There is multiple classification assessments of the GISTs based on multiple parameters. The treatment approaches are based on the surgical resection of the primary mass with or without imatinib therapy. This comprehensive study will review the GISTs in different views including definition, epidemiology, risk factors, pathophysiology, differential diagnosis, clinical presentation, and classifications a staging of the tumor, diagnostic modalities and management among Saudi Arabia patients.
