Abstract

Gastrointestinal protein loss was estimated in 30 subjects, 15 of whom were diabetic and 15 controls, using 51Cr labelled albumin. Studies over a 12 day period failed to show any significant differences between the two groups. Further evidence was obtained that gastrointestinal loss accounts for only a small proportion of albumin catabolism, but that percentage may be rather larger than previously reported.
