Abstract

To become familiar with the radiologic diagnosis of common gastrointestinal emergencies in children. To develop a differential diagnosis for vomiting and abdominal pain based on patient age. To gain an understanding of the nonoperative treatment of intussusception. Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis occurs in a specifie age group − 2-9 weeks If pyloric ultrasound is negative check : – SMA/SMV relationship – Kidneys for hydro Duodenal obstruction in a young infant is midgut volvulus until proved otherwise. Hernias and intussusception are common causes of obstruction in infants. Intussusception : – Lethargy can be the only symptom – Younger than 6 months – Meckel diverticulum – Older than 4 years – lymphoma Contraindications to intussusception reduction : – Peritoneal signs – Free air – Symptom duration > 24 hours Clinical, pathologic, and imaging features of common gastrointestinal emergent conditions of infants and young children will be presented.
