Abstract

This is a good book, for the most part completely rewritten by many experts under the direction of Dr Bockus and his five associate editors, Berk, Haubrich, Kalser, Roth, and Vildardell. Inevitably, there is some unevenness—eg, 16 pages are devoted to chronic duodenal stasis and none as such to ischemic bowel disease, which received mention only in the differential diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease. On the whole, however, the conscientious reader can expect to find almost everything he needs to know—and sometimes more than he will need to know—about most disorders of the small intestine and colon. Although there is still a little more historical information than the busy physician needs, the elephantine bibliographies of previous editions have for the most part gone their way.
