Abstract

The influence of a gastroduodenostomy (GD) on basal gastric secretion was studied in six gastric fistula dogs. The volume, as well as the acidity, was increased in all the dogs and the basal gastric acid output thus rose by 455% ( P < 0.05). The rise in basal gastric secretion after GD may be caused partly by antral stimulation by bile reflux and partly by loss of stimulation of the duodenal inhibition mechanism.
