Abstract

Pyloric sphincter responses to intraduodenal stimuli were measured on 10 normal subjects before and during pentagastrin administration, and after endogenous gastrin was released from the antral mucosa. Normally, intraduodenal hydrochloric acid, sodium oleate, and hypertonic amino acids each significantly increased the pyloric sphincter pressure. Both the intravenous administration of pentagastrin and endogenous gastrin released from the antral mucosa inhibited the pyloric responses to intraduodenal stimuli.
