Abstract

Fundoplication of the lower esophagus results in a postoperative deformity that may simulate neoplasm in the gastric fundus. In a study of 34 patients who had undergone Nissen or Belsey procedures, pseudotumors which diminished in size during the early postoperative period and then remained constant were seen in 33 patients. Knowledge of this postoperative deformity together with appropriate clinical evaluation should prevent a mistaken diagnosis of gastric neoplasm in a patient who previously underwent fundoplication.
