Abstract

Abstract: We report a patient with hyperthyroid Graves' disease associated with type A gastritis and a gastric carcinoid tumor. A 45‐year‐old female visited our hospital because of exophthalmos, and hyperthyroidism was found. TSH receptor antibody and anti‐parietal cell antibody were positive in the patient's serum. An endoscopic examination revealed type A gastritis and a gastric carcinoid tumor. The diagnosis of type A gastritis was determined histologically. The gastric carcinoid tumor was solitary and small (less than 5 mm in diameter), and was removed by biopsy. The patient's hypergastrinemia continued after the thyroid function was normalized by treatment with methimazole. Endoscopic surveillance for metachronous gastric carcinoid tumors will therefore be required. The association of Graves' disease, type A gastritis and a gastric carcinoid tumor is discussed.
