Abstract
By gastroscopy human gastric mucosal biopsies are obtained and incubated in a nutrient medium at room temperature. The potassium loss from the cells, the uptake of glucose and xylose, and the production of lactate are examined. The studies indicate that human gastric mucosal biopsies display certain characteristic metabolic activities, and may thus be considered acceptable tissues for further metabolic investigations.
