Abstract

A 72-year-old Asian man presented with abdominal pain and melena. Medical history included spinal tuberculosis, and there was a family history of gastric carcinoma. The patient did not drink any alcohol. On admission, he was hypotensive and tachycardic. The abdomen was soft, but with generalized tenderness. No mass was palpable. Blood tests revealed the following: hemoglobin 5.2 g/dL (normal 13-18 g/dL), urea nitrogen 22.4 mg/dL (7-18 mg/dL), normal clotting, and normal results on liver biochemical tests.
