Abstract

Hydroformylation of 1-hexene in the gas phase has been carried out at 120°C and 3 to 9 bar pressure with solution of the homogeneous catalyst RhHCO(PPh 3) 3 in molten PPh 3, which was dispersed into the pores of the carrier Chromosorb. Above a critical gas flow no condensation of product heptanal (b.p. 155°C) was observed. Conversion of 1-hexene to heptanal is a function of reactor length, gas flow and pressure of CO/H 2. The ratio of n/iso-aldehyde can be adjusted to 45 1 and is much higher than in liquid bulk hydroformylation.
