Abstract

The present study analyzes the potential of groundnut shell to produce combustible gas in a fluidized bed gasifier. The goal of the study is to investigate the effects of reactor temperature and fuel particle size on gas composition of the product gas with gas yield and heating value. The experiments are performed in the temperature range of 550 to 900°C, and for the particle sizes of 1.0, 1.5, and 2.75 mm to understand the characteristics of gasification in a fluidized bed. The equivalence ratio employed in this study are in the range of 0.26–0.40. The experimental results showed that the air fluidized bed gasification of groundnut shell produces gas with a higher heating value of 4.13 MJ/Nm3 at 800°C and equivalence ratio of 0.30, when 1 mm fuel particle size is used; the highest cold gas efficiency and carbon conversion efficiency obtained at this condition are 73.5 and 82.5%, respectively.
