Abstract

VAST technological changes have taken ’ place in poultry management in recent years. Poultry have been concentrated in high density confinement housing to provide meat and eggs more efficiently and economically than at any other time in the past history of animal agriculture. These changes in management practice have created acute problems in waste disposal and the control of gases and odors from poultry manure. The problem of air pollution from poultry house and manure odors has become particularly severe especially in areas where poultry confinement housing or land for the disposal of manure is adjacent to residential or resort developments.The present bibliography is an attempt to collect in one place some of the more pertinent articles related to odors and gases from poultry manure which up until this time have been scattered in the literature of such diverse fields as poultry science, microbiology, and agricultural engineering.
