Abstract

1. Retention indices have been determined for 63 disulfides, 7 trisulfides, and 3 tetrasulfides, on columns of different polarities at 130°C. 2. An equation relating the retention index with the number of carbon atoms in the straight alkyl radical chain has been derived for 13 homologous series of alkyl n-alkyl disulfides. 3. Check of the accuracy attained in calculating the retention indices of the unsymmetrical disulfides from the indices of the symmetrical compounds has shown the need for introducing a systematic correction term here. Retention indices have been calculated for 27 disulfides for which experimental data are lacking. .
