Abstract

This paper describes an application of the Fuzzy Self-Organizing Map (FSOM) to the problem of gas recognition. The gas recognition was done by using the M90 Chemical Agent Detector developed by Environics Oy. The FSOM is a fuzzy version of Kohonen Self-Organizing Map (SOM). We have compared the classification accuracies of the Nearest Neighbour (NN), Kohonen LVQ, and FSOM. As the classification results show, the FSOM, as well as the LVQ, clearly improve the classification accuracy of the M90 detector.
