Abstract
The reactions of CF 3O −, CF 3O −·H 2O and CF 3O −·HF with HCl and of CF 3O − with H 2O have been studied at room temperature in a flowing afterglow instrument. All reactions with HCl proceed at the gas kinetic rate. The reaction of CF 3O −with HCl proceeds by fluoride transfer, whereas CF 3O −·H 2O and CF 3O −·HF react with HCl by ligand switching. The Gibbs free energy change of the reaction of CF 3O − with H 2O has been determined at room temperature as well as the collisional dissociation rate constant of CF 3O −·H 2O ions.
