Abstract

In this paper the author prove that the organic solid state is a reactive one. Catalysed gas-solid reactions such as hydrogenation or uncatalysed reactions as halogenation have been chosen to illustrate this reactivity. Using single crystals, the knowledge of crystal structure and morphology allow the explanation of the observed reactivity and selectivity. The crystal chirality leads to an absolute assymetric synthesis using achiral reactants and catalyst. Theoretical chemistry can help in understanding the mechanisms of such reactions.
