Abstract

The longitudinal diffusion coefficient in a 3 in. diameter pipe carrying refinery gas over a 9,000 ft distance has been measured by using hydrogen as a tracer. The results show that the formula for the effective diffusion coefficient given by T aylor, K = 7·14 aU √ c f , may be used for gases as well as for liquids. This means that the Schmidt group has no influence on longitudinal diffusion.
