Abstract

With fast reactions (i.e. oxidation reactions), the mixing times, both of the vapor phase and of the liquid phase, can be the same and even higher than the reaction times. This causes the lack of homogeneity inside the reactor so that it reacts in a completely different way to that of the ideal model. A mathematical mixing cell model has been formulated in order to achieve an adequate and simple analysis of this problem. The structure of the selected flow model combines a good flexibility with a few complications; therefore, identification of the parameters and numerical solution of the model are not too difficult.
