Abstract

Plasticity is the self-organizing property of living bodies which makes them adaptive to an environment. If a sensor has plasticity, information loss at the sensor level, which cannot be compensated by any information-processing system, is minimized. In this study, therefore, sensor plasticity has been introduced to a gas identification system using plural sensors and a pattern-recognition technique. Semiconductor gas sensors are used and their temperatures controlled to realize plasticity, following the algorithm for improving their pattern-separation capabilities.
