Abstract

Gas chromatography (GC) of common fatty acid esters of cholesterol, β-sitosterol, stigmasterol, and campesterol was carried out on SILAR 10C. The esters having acyl groups of C12-C22 chain lengths and 0–6 double bonds were characterized by equivalent chain lengths (ECL). Equations to calculate the ECL values of saturated and monoenoic esters of C27-C29 sterols with 5:6-olefinic structures are presented. The effect of the column temperature on the ECL of the esters of unsaturated acids and the application to quantitative analyses are discussed.
