Abstract
A simple method for gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric identification of Δ5,7-sterols and their acetates in complex sterol mixtures is proposed. It is based on the fact that they are more readily dehydrated (respectively deacetylated) at high temperatures, compared with Δ5-sterols. Sterol mixtures from four marine invertebrates were investigated by this method.
