Abstract
Abstract A method is described for the gas Chromatographic estimation of 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy phenylglycol in urine. The substance, free (or after hydrolysis), is extracted at pH 1 with ethyl acetate, back-extracted into sodium carbonate solution separated from vanillylmandelic acid through re-extraction at pH 6 into ethylacetate and oxidized to vanillin. The vanillin formed is then assayed as the methoximetrimethylsilyl ether derivative by gas chromatography.
