Abstract
A new kind of packed column, cross-linked PEG-20M column, was prepared and examined on effectiveness for gaschromatographic analysis of volatile fatty acids. Aqueous samples were directly injected on the column and separation pattern and reproducibility. were satisfactory. Volatile fatty acids in cow feces, poultry feces, swine feces, and rotten kitchen refuse were determined by this new column and direct injection technique. Acetic, propionic, isobutyric, butyric, 2-methylbutanoic, isovaleric, and valeric acids were detected in all samples.
