Abstract

The gas phase mass transfer in the empty channels, and the liquid phase mass transfer within the catalyst-packed channels, of the criss-crossing sandwich structures of KATAPAK-S have been studied using computational fluid dynamics. Due to the “upheaval” caused by the flow splitting at the cross-overs, the mass transfer coefficient is significantly larger than that for fully developed flow in a single tube.
