Abstract

This is a story especially worth telling for two reasons: (1) It provides an inside look from a former member on how the FASB operates during one of the most tumultuous periods in accounting history in the aftermath of the accounting scandals of the early 2000s; and (2) It concerns the lifestyle of an individual who was at the peak of the profession in both accounting and finance. Accordingly, we invited Gary Schieneman to speak to our accounting and finance students to emphasize the interrelationship of these two disciplines and to encourage the students to double-major. Passionate about his work in both disciplines and open to new challenges, he transferred from one position to another. His career took him from public accounting to industry to Wall Street and finally to the FASB.
