Abstract

This session describes research work in two areas: garment physiology and comfort, and fabric specification and garment construction in relation to garment manufacturing processes and garment style and aesthetics. These two areas were included in the Second Textile Research Programme of the EEC because of their importance to the textile industry and to the manufacturers and retailers of garments. There is no doubt that improvement in the comfort of fabrics and clothing is currently an important and developing theme with manufacturers and retailers, and therefore a major group of projects on this subject is most opportune at this time. Similarly, there is an increasing interest in the development of clothing of good style, quality, and fit and in the automation of garment manufacture; in both of these areas the specification, classification, and construction of fabrics and of garments made from them is clearly of key importance.
