Abstract

Gardona® (2-chloro-1-(2,4,5-trichlorophenyl) vinyl dimethyl phosphate) applied in drycleaning solvents to woolen cloth satisfactorily protected the cloth against feeding damage by larvae of the black carpet beetle, Attagenus megatoma (F.), at deposits as low as 0.08% by weight. Chemical analyses of the treated cloths showed that: (1) calculated and actual deposits of Gardona were similar, indicating that selective sorption of Gardona did not occur, (2) Gardona residues on the cloth samples were not affected by either steam pressing or oven drying, and (3) no residue buildup occurred on the cloths when they were re-treated 3 times during the drycleaning process.
