Abstract
The reading of gardens as cultural expression, part of a cultural system, is a common theme in both historical and contemporary research. Yet, the analysis of culture and its creation process via garden interpretation is a relatively new approach. The purpose of this article is to challenge garden interpretation as a method for studying the emergence of culture and its content. The creation of the Meir Garden — the first Hebrew garden in Tel Aviv, the first Hebrew city — serves as an example for the interpretation of culture through garden research.
