It is a Sanskrit Upanishad that some academics identify with the Krishna Yajurveda, while others associate it with the Atharvaveda. It is among the 35 Samanya Upanishads (generic Upanishads). The book is attributed to sage Pippalada in the Upanishad's last verse, although the text's chronology and author are unknown, as well as the surviving copies are damaged, inconsistent, as well as fragmentary.
