Abstract

As a complementary and individualised method extracranial CT facilitates or permits correct diagnosis of paediatricsurgical problems. Evaluation of neoplasms of the body and extremities includes precise definition of the site of origin, the extent of disease and of possible regional metastases. Traumatic lesions of parenchymal abdominal organs, of the spine and pelvis are easily appreciated with high accuracy. In selected patients abscess, spinal disorders and orthopaedic problems are further valuable indications. However, the relevant contribution made by CT must be carefully weighed against effort required by and involved in the examination.
