Abstract

Total linear and mass absorption coefficients for NaI(Tl) have been measured at 13 gamma energies between 0.15 to 2.75 MeV with an accuracy of 0.1–0.2%. In addition, incoherent absorption cross sections were derived by subtracting the small cross sections of Rayleigh-scattering, as such cross sections are important in calculating the efficiency of NaI(Tl) detectors. Up to 1 MeV gamma energy, photoelectric absorption cross sections have been deduced from the data subtracting the total scattering contributions. These results farily agree with up-to-date theoretical calculations.
