Abstract

A planar Ge(Li) detector used as a γ-ray polarimeter was employed in order to perform γ-γ(90° LP) angular correlation experiments. This technique proves to be a useful tool for the cases in which γ-γ(θ) and conversion coefficient experiments do not allow unique spin and parity determinations. In order to decide whether a measurement of the γ-γ(90° LP) correlation can help to establish spin and parity of a nuclear state, the asymmetry parameter β has been calculated for different spin sequences and is presented in graphical form as a function of the mixing ratio δ. The method has been used to determine the spin of the 1248 keV level in 124Te.
