Abstract

Gamma-gamma directional correlations have been measured for cascades in 144Nd following thermal-neutron capture by 143Nd. Unique multipole mixing ratios have been assigned to 12 transitions. Coincidence relations established from 18 coincidence gates have enabled an extensive decay scheme to be constructed. The results are compared with the predictions of the interacting boson approximation and some agreement is found. The 2+ assignment to the 1560 keV state is confirmed, which is in conflict with existing averaged resonance capture data.
