Abstract

Although considerable work has been done on the effects of radiation on various insects (O'Brien and Wolfe 1964), no study has been found dealing with the effects of gamma radiation on an aquatic species. Howden and Crossley (1961) studied the distribution of adult aquatic insects in the area of a radioactive waste disposal lake, and Peredel'skill and Borgatyrey (1959) studied the scattering of radioisotopes by aquatic insect larvae, but did not report observations on radiation damage to the insects themselves. An initial contribution in this field is presented here.
