Abstract

Game based learning and gamification have become a topic of comprehensive study and of debate, particularly on how to best utilize them in the education sector (Annetta, 2010). Many claim that serious educational games can offer students and youth an array of benefits, both directly and indirectly (Buckley & Doyle, 2016; Mullins & Sabherwal, 2020). This major research project will examine what aspects of game based learning are beneficial for youth development, as well as follow the development of an educational quiz and digital card game prototype that draws on the positive aspects that help players learn and retain more information in any educational manner. This project will also provide new insights on the realm of educational games, as well as offer new directions for future researchers.
