Abstract

Game engines are the most important tools in modern game development. We have developed a novel game engine CAGE and used it in a game programming course for three years. The CAGE game engine was developed in summer 2008 in Tampere University of Technology. It has been developed iteratively since then. In this paper, we describe lessons learned from the three years of when CAGE has been used. Our experiences can provide valuable information for teachers planning a use of a game engine in their game programming classes.
