Abstract

Slovenian regions have gone through different phases of gaming regulation. The article thus discusses historical development of gambling regulation on the territory of the Republic of Slovenia, when it was a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire through being a part of the socialist federation of Yugoslavia and finally as an independent state. Nevertheless, since the country joined EU it must adapt its gambling regulation to the EU internal market principles as interpreted by the EU Court of Justice, which poses significant challenges for the Slovenian authorities working in the field of gambling regulation.
