Abstract

First-year students will of course experience problems and difficulties, which can cause stress. Early students need an ability to be able to adapt, survive, overcome and thrive in the midst of difficulties in order to function normally under various pressures and stress-causing factors which is called resilience. The purpose of this study is to describe the resilience of the first-year students at STIKes Santa Elisabeth Medan. The design of this study uses descriptive research. The sample in this study are all first-year students with the sampling technique used is total sampling with a sample of 193 respondents. The data collection technique in this study is by distributing the Connor Davidson Resilience Scale questionnaire with 25 statements. Based on the results of research conducted on the first-year students at STIKes Santa Elisabeth Medan, it is found that the resilience level of first-year students are in the moderate resilience category, namely 110 respondents (57%), while the least are in the low category as many as 13 respondents (6,7%). 20 years old tend to have high resilience. In the aspect of resilience when viewed from the high score, the most aspects are aspects of accepting change positively and the least aspect of self-control. This shows that first year students at STIKes Santa Elisabeth Medan are able to cope with stress and adapt but are still not optimal.
