Abstract

The galvanic corrosion behavior of conductive silicon rubber (CSR) couples with different alloys (aluminum alloy, nickel-plated aluminum alloy) were investigated in 3.5% sodium chloride solutions in sealed container by means of electrochemical measurement, weight-loss determination, and surface characterization. It was found that weight-loss method couldn't be the only way to evaluate the corrosion behavior of the substrates with plated layer. The corrosion mode of aluminum alloy was selective and oxygen absorption corrosion, which was carried out along the (100) planes. The nickel layer of nickel-plated aluminum alloy could exert a protective effect at the beginning of corrosion.
