Abstract
[74974-60-0] C3F9GaO9S3 (MW 516.91) InChI = 1S/3CHF3O3S.Ga/c3*2-1(3,4)8(5,6)7;/h3*(H,5,6,7);/q;;;+3/p-3 InChIKey = BVLXNPRUOXPBII-UHFFFAOYSA-K (a Lewis acid catalyst) Physical Data: dec. at 280 °C. Solubility: soluble in water, alcohol, acetonitrile, dimethylformamide, and most highly polar organic solvents. Form Supplied in: anhydrous gallium triflate is a white powder. Handling, Storage, and Precautions: the salt is moisture stable but hygroscopic. Store under argon in a glovebox or a desiccator over P4O10. Preparative methods: gallium triflate can be prepared from gallium metal or gallium chloride by refluxing with excess of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (triflic acid).1 After cooling the mixture to 0 °C, the mixture is poured into ice and then filtered to remove any unreacted gallium metal and other insoluble materials. Water and excess triflic acid are removed from the filtrate by vacuum distillation and the resulting hydrated salt is then dried by heating at 200 °C for 5–24 h using a P4O10 trap under vacuum. Gallium triflate is obtained as a white powder (eq 1). (1)
