Building on a minimal sound concept, the choreographed motion-, light- and sonic patterns of HIVE create a highly dynamic figurative landscape, a pulsing audiovisual matter, without, it appears, either beginning or end. In a macabre reversal of the missing-limb phenomenon, two unmatched prosthetic legs from different periods, one gendered male the other female, imply a disarticulated human form. This amusing arrangement evokes the age-old drive to exceed the natural limitations of the human body by means of art and technology. The narrative of the work is both in the content of the works and in the process of making. The work is about the fragility of embodiment—the relationship of ourselves to our bodies.
