Abstract
Through the years, evidence has accumulated which suggests that gallbladder mucin is one of the factors involved in the formation of cholesterol gallstones in the gallbladder. In this review, the evidence for the role of mucin in the pathogenesis of gallstone disease is summarized and the potential mechanisms whereby gallbladder mucin may influence gallstone formation, as well as the regulation of mucin secretion in the gallbladder, are discussed
