Abstract

Mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinomas (MANEC) are defined as carcinomas with both gland-forming epithelial and neuroendocrine components with at least 30% of either component present.1 These are rare tumours in the gallbladder with only 36 descriptions found in a literature search. In the gallbladder pure neuroendocrine tumours represent less than 4% of malignant neoplasms.1 We describe a rare case of mixed adenocarcinoma and small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma in an 84-year-old woman with a background history of cholangitis with known choledocholiathiasis. In this case the small cell component contributed to locally invasive disease.
