Abstract

The distribution of interstellar matter is a fundamental aspect of the structure of our Galaxy. Its knowledge is critical for determining distances and color corrections, for star counts and brightness models of the Galaxy, and also for extinction corrections of spectra, among other applications. In this context, we are developing a VO-Service called GALExtin that provides interstellar extinction estimates for any direction in the sky using available 2D maps, 3D models, catalogs with extinction and diffuse emission measurements. The service is naturally useful for estimating interstellar extinction toward star clusters.
